“Field Experience in Conserving Biodiversity and Managing the Natural Protected Area of Putao”

Speaker: Dr. Thein Aung

• Aged natural environment, aesthetics
• Biodiversity that has evolved over many years, ecological balance, and the ecosystem
• High Altitude Wetland (HAW), Headwater basin/catchment area of Ayeyarwaddy River
• Community-based biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management

• Beneficiaries: Firewood fuel, subsistence/ livelihood, occupation, water resources, impact on food/ fish and meat supplies, use of traditional medicine, cultural customs/ traditions, ancient traditional natural scenic beauty/ aesthetics, sensory experience of nature
• Areas of Subject: Difficulty obtaining daily fuel (firewood), limited cultivated land, scarcity of crop supplies/ food, livestock grazing area, reliance on natural forest products for food (plants, fruits, flowers, tubers/ roots), reliance on fish and aquatic animals, use of traditional medicinal herbs, and impact on accessing and experiencing the natural environment
