Invitation to 52nd Session of CE-TEP

October 28, 2026

Dear CE–TEP Members, Climate and Environmental Advocates,

Warm greetings from the CE–TEP Team. We wish you a wonderful day. We cordially invite you to participate in the 52nd Climate & Environment Technical Exchange Platform (CE–TEP ) Event, organized by MERA.

Topic:

“Designing with What We Have: Local Resources, Climate-Responsive Architecture, and Community Resilience in Myanmar”

Speaker: U Htoo Aung, Architect, Director of Blue Temple & Housing NOW

Key Points:

  • Rethinking Sustainable Construction: Sustainability is not only about material selection, but also about how buildings are designed, constructed, used, and maintained.
  • Designing with Local Resources: Exploring how computational design, structural optimization, and prefabrication can improve the use of locally available materials, including small-diameter bamboo.
  • Climate-Responsive Architecture: Using passive design strategies, such as natural ventilation, shading, and roof design, to respond to Myanmar’s environmental conditions.
  • Community Knowledge and Resilience: Strengthening local construction capacity through community participation, practical building methods, and accessible technical knowledge.
  • From Design Research to Implementation: Examining the opportunities and challenges of applying resource-efficient and climate-responsive construction approaches in real projects

  • Beneficiaries : Local communities, architects, engineers, construction workers, bamboo craftspeople, students, researchers, community-based organizations, and professionals involved in sustainable construction and disaster recovery.
  • Areas of Subject : Climate-responsive architecture, sustainable construction, local material utilization, bamboo construction, resource efficiency, community resilience, and construction knowledge transfer.

Value:

  • Encourage a broader understanding of sustainable construction beyond the selection of environmentally friendly materials.
  • Share practical approaches to combining architectural research, local resources, and construction knowledge.
  • Highlight opportunities for improving material efficiency, climate responsiveness, and building durability.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration between architectural, engineering, environmental, and community-based organizations.
