With regard to the financial situation, the initial amount of USD 50,000 which was funded by Pyoe Pin Program-DFID for setting up of the Secretariat and capacity building activities for member organization. Furthermore 350,000 USD has been granted from Pyoe Pin to MERN for overall project implementation. The following Small Grant Projects are implemented by member organizations with the Pyoe Pin budget.

Project Activities Objective of the project is to empower and network NSAs in three transboundary landscapes assess, monitor and respond appropriately to strengthen forest governance, particularly in FLEGT-VPA and REDD+, and effectively engage in policy processes. The expected outputs: 1. NSA forest governance monitoring systems (FGMS) piloted and scaled-up 2. NSAs have strengthened rights in conjunction with increased capacity to improve forest governance 3. Effective and coordinated NSAs engage in national FLEGT-VPA and REDD+ processes and contribute to the development of transparent, accountable and gender and socially inclusive FGMS 4. Regional NSA learning platform facilitates coaching and information exchange, including lessons learned and best practices on FGMS

Project Activities Through the development of community forest (CF), CF enterprise (CFE), and community protected area (CPA) in mangrove areas, the “Integrating mangroves into REDD+ Implementation in Myanmar” initiative is aimed to build on Myanmar’s recent efforts to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on the role of mangroves in achieving the goals of the National REDD+ strategy • Strengthening local communities and CSOs’ capacity for establishing and managing Community Protected Areas in south-eastern Myanmar • Support local communities and CSOs’ in the establishment of Community Forests in south-eastern Myanmar Support local communities and CSOs in the establishment of Community Forestry Enterprises in south-eastern Myanmar

Project Activities Support local communities in the establishment of 10 Community Forest-based Enterprises (CFE) in south-east Myanmar, specifically: (a) Identify a total of 10 CFs in Mawlamyaing, Dawai and Myeik districts with high potential and strong community support (demand) for CFE establishment (b) Conduct awareness raising on CF, CFE, enterprise development, and relevant laws and regulations. (c) Develop training materials and conduct the trainings on CFE models, Basic business management and entrepreneurial skill, Basic accounting and MA&D (d) Form or strengthen existing CFUG and CF Steering Committees for the potential CFEs with associated ToR. (e) Apply Market Analysis and Development methodologies (MA&D), conduct analyses, including market surveys to assess the supply and demand of forest and non-forest products (f) Prioritize and select viable products/livelihood options in consultation with the concerned Community Forest User Groups based on market demand. (g) Develop CFE Plan (business plan) for each CFE (h) Train the CFUGs on the production and marketing of the selected product(s). (i) Assist in linking the CFUGs with businesses and markets for its products. (j) Provide an investment package to each CFUG to initialize business including creation of bank accounts.
