Workshop on Formation of Community Forestry Practitioners’ Network

Holding the workshop on “Community Forestry Practitioners’ Network (CFPN)” was started on 27th September 2016 at the Central Forestry Development Training Center (CFDTC) with the support of Community Forestry National Working Group (CFNWG), funded by Forest and Firm Facility-FFF of FAO & Pyoe Pin Program and organized by Forest Department together with RECOFT-Myanmar (The Center for People and Forests) and Myanmar Environment Rehabilitation-Conservation Network (MERN).

At the opening ceremony, U Kyaw Kyaw Lwin, Deputy Director-General of Forest Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation delivered the opening speech and respective delegates – Mr. Gerry Fox (Team Leader of Pyoe Pin Program), Dr. Kyaw Tint (Chairman of MERN) and Dr. Maung Maung Than (Country Program Coordinator of RECOFT-Myanmar) also gave opening remarks.

A total of about 140 representatives from government officials of Forest Department and Dry Zone Greening Department, representatives from Community Forest User Groups including Community Forest Products Producer Association-CFPPA of different State and Regions, representatives from supporting agencies of NGO, INGO and UN-FAO agencies and delegates from private sectors presented at the workshop.

Community Forestry Practitioners’ Network (CFPN) workshop was held with following objectives;
(1) To share experiences of what they have learned to be achieved, challenges and opportunities among community forest users.
(2) To initiate for formation of Community Forestry Practitioners’ Network and find the ways to cooperate among them.
(3) Findings and recommendations from community forest users are to be submitted to Forest Department, related government departments and supporting agencies such as Civil Society Organizations and UN-FAO agencies.

The Workshop would be held two days up to 28 September 2016.
