It has been reaching four years since 2017, Voices for Mekong Forests (V4MF) project was implemented in Tanintharyi Dawna landscape with the support of European Union. Earliest this year 2020, Project is started to extend in Kayin and Mon states.
Today, V4MF Myanmar team is introducing the project at Than Lwin Paradise Hotel in Kayin state. Project progress, opportunities and challenges, encountered in previous years in Tanintharyi region are presented at the event. In addition, participants are provided time and environment for engagement of establishing Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) network in Kayin state.
In the morning, state minister (Natural resource, Mining and transportation) and Director of forest department, Kayin state delivered opening speech and progress of forest department respectively. Project’s inside and brief of forest governance are presented by Dr.Maung Maung Than, Country Director of RECOFTC Myanmar then following questions from participants are responded by U Aung Thant Zin, CEO of MERN. Government officials, representatives from ethnic armed organization, CSOs, CFUGs and local communities attended the event and participated in group discussions.
V4MF project is strengthening local’s voices to improve forest governance and implementing in Mekong region countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Myanmar. WWF Myanmar, RECOFTC Myanmar and MERN are working together on this five years’ project in the areas of Tanintharyi, Kayin and Mon.
